HOT TUBS & YOUR HEALTH: CARDIO / HEART HEALTH

Heart Health is extremely important. The heart is the centre of all that we are – it is responsible for almost everything that gives your body life. (Take a look at this article on the Importance of Heart Health.) If you were to ask a health professional about ways to improve your heart health, you would probably be given suggestions of what you can do, such as: eat healthy, practice relaxation methods and above all EXERCISE.

Many studies have been done in recent years, all over the globe, to find the correlation between hydrotherapy and cardiovascular health. Most of these studies have found that hydrotherapy is an effective method of cardiovascular rehabilitation and can be a safe alternative to conventional exercise. (See one case study here.)

In a recent study, a researcher at the Mayo Clinic did a comparison between exercise in water and exercise on a bicycle, in patients at risk for heart disease. He found that soaking in warm water helped lower blood pressure, whereas bicycling raised it. (In some cases – it was raised to dangerous levels.)

Studies have found that even sitting in hot water up to your neck aids cardiovascular health. When a person is immersed in water – the water exerts pressure on the body. Cardiac volume increases by nearly one-third with immersion to the neck.

Many therapists, trainers and professional sport organizations have jumped on the bandwagon of using hydrotherapy for cardio health. It has widely become an accepted therapy for rehabilitation of heart health.
Wherever you go, go with all your heart.” – Confucious. A healthy heart makes for a happy life – be sure to take care of yours.

Before using hydrotherapy for cardiovascular health or rehabilitation – be sure to consult your doctor.
